A guitar is a complex instrument, requiring an understanding of the qualities of wood and metal, electronics, and how they work together to achieve your ultimate goal: a great sound!
This six part, weekly class will build an electric or bass guitar from a kit, choosing from several different guitar styles and options. Beginning with a kit is an excellent way to learn the foundational skills of guitar building. But these kits are not toys! With guidance from instructor Jim Harrington, you will build a high quality, custom, one of a kind instrument, limited only by your imagination. You will explore finish techniques, understand guitar components, basic electronics, setup, where to source parts, and how to solve problems and study the effects of all theses things on tone and playability.
Open to aspiring musicians, builders, artists, creators and dreamers age 15+. No prior woodworking or electronics skills necessary, but participants should expect to do some homework.
The six week class fee (including all necessary materials) is $85. Material costs depend on kit chosen, but range from $99 - $160.
