Building your own boat can be a rewarding woodworking project - but there are infinite types of boats, designs, and construction methods. Where do you begin?

In this class, we will start with a beginner’s overview of the effects of shape and construction on the building process and the performance of a boat powered by paddle, oar, sail, or motor. As a class, we will decide what we want our class boat to do best, we will design it with a scale model, then build a simple full-size small boat to our design - using materials available from any local home improvement store or lumberyard.

If you are looking to build simple small boats for rowing, sailing, or fishing, this might be the only class you need. And if you have your heart set on a more complex shape with more exotic materials and finer finish, this course will help you decide your next step!

Introduction to Boatbuilding is offered through a partnership between MaxT and Mill Hollow Works. MHW is a heritage craft school based in Keene NH, that teaches people how to improve their quality of life through the use of traditional tools and local resources. We offer courses in Boatbuilding, Homebuilding, Homesteading, and more, with the mission of helping people live in a state of self-reliance.  For more information, millhollowworks.org
