Tantalizing Textures Clay Workshop

In this online workshop you will learn how to create textures that will transform your clay and go beyond any basic mark making. We will explore and combine subtractive, additive, and stamping methods using basic clay tools and everyday objects around your house. We will make wall relief tiles to practice the textures, which will be dropped off to be fired and glazed after the workshop.

This is for all skill levels of participants from beginner to advanced ceramics.

Materials: Students will be provided clay, basic clay tool kit and a small bucket. 

Optional materials for students to gather from home:

  • mesh tea strainer
  • empty yogurt cup (for slip)
  • assortment of markers and paintbrushes
  • natural material- rocks, bark, seashells, 
  • random small objects for pressing into clay like jewelry or kitchen utensils 
  • 10-20 nails any size
  • tape

About the Instructor: 

Rachel Montroy is a ceramic and fiber artist living in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. She regularly exhibits her sculptures regionally and nationally in galleries and museums. She is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen for her ceramic and fiber artwork. Rachel received a Bachelor of Art in Studio Arts with a concentration in Ceramics from the University of New Hampshire in 2006. She then received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic Sculpture from the School for American Crafts at RIT in Rochester, New York in 2008. Rachel has been an adjunct professor and workshop instructor for several colleges and institutions around New England for over 10 years. To view her work visit www.rachelmontroy.com.
